On 1st July, members of the FPS team joined forces with the Chartered Institute of Water & Environmental Managers (CIWEM) to march in the Pride in London parade.

Over a million people attended the annual parade which celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community.

At FPS Environmental we champion Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, meeting the needs of people from all walks of life, and supporting our diverse team. We believe a diverse, equitable and inclusive company is better able to respond to challenges, attract top talent, and meet the needs of our varying customers.

We promote inclusivity as diversity leads to better decision making, concurring with the report from the 30% Club and the Oliver Wyman Forum that ‘companies that are good at diversity are likely to be good at climate action.’ These dual commitments are embodied in FPS Policies and governance. FPS value staff, suppliers and contractors as individuals and we manage inclusively, engaging our employees’ full commitment, abilities, energy, and variety of approaches.  Only by doing this will we maximise our employees’ full potential.

FPS are also signatories to the Armed forces covenant & conflict avoidance pledge (RICS), and a disability confident employer, committed to valuing Equality and Diversity. We provide all staff with the opportunity for employment, career and personal development based on ability, qualifications, and suitability for the work as well as their potential to carry out the job.

Director and FPS MD Simon Crowther is a member of Nexus LGBTQ+ and attends quarterly seminars. Simon is determined to support the next generation of leaders with science, technology, engineering, and maths. Alongside visiting his former school, and being an Arkwright Scholarship Ambassador, Simon supports the Tomorrow’s Engineers community with ambition to inform and inspire young people and grow the number and diversity of tomorrow’s engineers. As an LGBTQIA+ individual with wide influence, Simon presented at their ‘Big Assembly’ which was broadcast to 50,000 students and has published works with Elite Business.

We hope that through attending and supporting events such as Pride in London, we increase the visibility of LGBTQIA+ individuals working with Water & the Environment, in turn helping others to feel comfortable in their own skin.
