Drainage Design for Planning & Construction
Detailed Drainage Plans are required for any new drainage being installed, from a new home extension to a multi-unit residential housing or commercial estate. Any contractor or builder will need detailed drawings to produce an accurate cost estimate and to provide appropriate detail for the construction.
This provides all the information for your contractor to plan and construct the drainage system, either based on a strategy that has been agreed with the Local Planning Authority through a planning application or as a newly designed system.
As part of this we identify:
- Pipe runs with pipe sizes
- Inspection chambers, manholes, rodding eyes, gulley details
- Drainage connections to existing sewers
- Flow control systems (where applicable)
- Cover and invert levels
- Storage structures (ponds, basins, underground tanks and crates, swales, etc)
This covers both the surface and foul water systems, along with any required soakaway or attenuation features and off-site connections. If required, we can also agree new connections with your local sewerage provider.

Our Clients

Where there are no existing sewers to connect to for foul systems, we can also access and design off-grid private foul drainage systems including, packaged treatment tanks, packaged pump systems, drainage fields, partial drainage fields. As part of this process, we can review the need for Environmental Permits and we can manage the whole process for you, including the design and submission of the works to the Environment Agency where applicable (can link to the section about Permits).
Sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) are a key part of surface water drainage solutions, providing water quality improvements and other environmental benefits such as reducing pollution, and increasing biodiversity. SuDS form part of the National Planning Policy Framework and are required by local authorities for surface water drainage strategies submitted for planning approval.
Below-Ground Drainage Design (surface, foul, combined, lab, land)
We cover all aspects of below-ground drainage design, from concept to construction, including drainage strategy reports, design drawings, specifications and 3D modelling (BIM). We can design any type of below-ground drainage system to suit the site requirements and constraints, with a focus on delivering peak design performance and cost efficiency.
Our drawings are produced and are issued with standard construction details, in compliance with Building Regulations Part H and industry best practice. These drawings are suitable for submission to your Local Authority Building Control for building regulations compliance and can be used to tender your works identifying all key elements for your contractors to quote on and construct.
